EAD and UNEP Sign Agreement to Establish the Joint Eye on Earth Secretariat
The Environment Agency- Abu Dhabi (EAD) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) have signed a landmark agreement to establish the joint Eye on Earth Secretariat to oversee the implementation of the eight Special Initiatives and commitments of the Eye on Earth Summit held in Abu Dhabi (12-15 December 2011). The Abu Dhabi Summit brought together over 900 multi-sector stakeholders to address the issue of "access to environmental and societal data and information by all those who need it" and advance the sustainable development agenda.
